Tragedies Last Week: Flooding, Burning, and Bombings

The natural disasters kept coming last week, obviously this drew attention to Donald Trump. Also some violence and bombings. A shocked and bloodied little boy made Americans on Facebook notice that other parts of the world exist. These are just a few of the tragedies last week.

Syrian War Continues, Video of Boy Goes Viral

August 17, 2016 – There’s a war in Syria. Did you know? Syria is a country in Western Asia and the country’s government is currently at war with their citizens. It’s been happening for a long time and it’s pretty shitty.

But people on Facebook took notice this week when a shocking video of a traumatized little boy went viral.

The 5-year-old boy, Omran Daqneesh, was rescued from his home after an air-strike by government forces. He is covered in blood and mostly in shock as he gradually takes in the chaos that is every day life in Syria. Since the video has been spread on social media this little’s boy’s older brother has died as a result of the bombing.

These are the “Syrian refugees” we’re always hearing about by the way. They look terribly dangerous, don’t they?

So it goes.

California Still Burning

August 17, 2016 – We’ve already touched on the wildfires in California, but they just keep going and going. The latest in a series of massive fires in the golden state is the Bluecut Fire. This fire, east of Los Angeles, has caused nearly 80,000 people to evacuate the area and has destroyed 30,000 acres of land. That’s a spicy meatball!

In another part of California, some asshole was arrested for allegedly starting a fire that destroyed 40,000 acres of land.

All of this in one of the hottest summers in history. Also the ice in the arctic is melting at an unprecedented rate, but surely the two events have no relation.

Louisiana Flooding

August 18, 2016 – A massive flood in Louisiana has claimed 13 lives and rendered thousands of families homeless. According to the Red Cross, this is the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

The public attention surrounding the flood has focused on a minute of Donald Trump giving flood victims play-doh for some reason, and Barack Obama golfing for a few hours during the week-long tragedy.

Did I mention that California is burning and Antarctica is melting? Just thought I’d throw that out there again.

But most importantly, Taylor Swift gave them some money.
